Maggard Sound began as a private recording studio in 1963 when Charlie Maggard needed somewhere to record the songs he had been writing at the time.

Charlie Maggard was in a bluegrass band with Albert Elliot, Don Neely, and Bill Crabtree then called "The Virginia Bluegrass Singers". Sometime in 1964 "The Virginia Bluegrass Singers" recorded four songs in the living room of Charlie's house on recording equipment supplied by Bill Crabtree. These early recordings were released on Cozy Records under "The Elliot Brothers with Bill Crabtree And His Famous Banjo. The recordings included: "Too Late", "Your Steppin' On My Heart", "One More Tomorrow" and "Why, Oh Why."

From it's beginnings as a home demo recording studio, Maggard Sound and has grown to become a full service commercial studio that can handle your project from beginning to end. Tracking, Mixing, Mastering, and Production - we do it all. Our down home comfort makes it easy to relax and record.

We specialize in Country Gospel, Southern Gospel, Mountain Gospel, Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel recording. Over the years we have recorded projects for thousands of satisfied customers with only “word of mouth” advertising. We’ve “Let Our Sound Speak for Itself” for over 35 years and repeat business has been a big part of our continued success. We’ve had groups record as many as 19 projects over a period of 20 years with us, and they are still coming back.

We have had songs we’ve recorded go to number one on the charts and have gotten letters from all over the world from people and organizations that have heard about what we are doing.

From a dream to a reality - In 2002 we were honored to have recorded the GRAMMY winning Bluegrass album of the Year, Jim Lauderdale and Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys, (Lost In The Lonesome Pines).
